Mooiste fotografie plekken Nederland 2023. Part 2.

And part 2 in this series of the “Mooiste fotografie plekken Nederland 2023” is about Architecture. My journey in photography started with architecture. It was always fascinating how those HUGE buildings were built, and it gives off a feeling that you can feel so small. The hard part for me was capturing how big a building really is. It’s nice capturing the beauty of it, but how can you really show the depth of the size of a building? That’s when the Kick force perspective comes in!
For most of my architecture photography, I used a 16-35 lens but a 24-70 lens will also work great. Here are some of my favorite places in The Netherlands for Architecture.

City centre, Rotterdam.

You have probably walked past this spot lots of times when in Rotterdam. It’s in a back alley nearby Rotterdam Central station. When looking up, the curves of the buildings will give you so much to play with when taking your photos. 1/2

City Centre, Rotterdam.

The same location from a different angle; like I said: there is so much to play with! 2/2.

Harbor, Amsterdam.

I actually went to get a burger at this location (Beef chief, It’s soooo good!!) and found this fantastic building with some of the nicest railings I’ve ever seen. So while you are at it grab a burger and explore this harbor for some great spots!

Zuidas, Amsterdam.

Amsterdam has so many fantastic architectural gems. In this location alone, you can enjoy yourself for the entire day. Even at nighttime, all the buildings light up, giving you another great perspective!

Zuidas, Amsterdam.

Maybe it was better to name this blog Photography in Amsterdam, Zuid as… Thankfully this is part of a series, and more locations in The Netherlands will follow soon, as there are so many places to explore.

Rai, Amsterdam.

Close by Zuidas, you will also find this Parking garage. Beautiful from not only the inside but also the outside. One small tip, park your car inside the garage so you won’t get a ticket. The security working at this parking garage is actually quite nice if they come to ask what you are doing. And it also helps if you are paying for parking as you will have a legitimate reason for being there. In the evening, the garage lights up with different colors. This evening the choice of color was blue! You can also catch some great photos during the daytime, but it will be busier!

Zuidas, Amsterdam.

Iam really a fan of this location, during the day but also during the night time. In the evening everything lights up and the streets clear out. So that means perfect time for some long exposure shots!

Last but not least.

These spots are mainly in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, two cities offering tremendous architectural sceneries. Of course, The Netherlands has so much more to offer, and I will cover those places in a different blog. But you will find more than enough to photograph in these two cities alone.

Photography tips.

For Amsterdam and Rotterdam, parking can be expensive as you will mostly be parking in a parking garage. However, near Zuidas, close to Coolblue, you will find a free parking spot next to a soccer field. For Rotterdam, I think it’s easier to go by train because the central station is also a fantastic place to take photos. Photo-wise, I would recommend using a 16-35 lens or a 24-70 lens and.. 70-200. Of course, 16-35 for those ultra-wide angle shots, 24-70 for every photo you can think of as I believe it’s the most versatile lens you can take, and now comes the 70-200 part: If you find the right angle from a distance a 70-200 lens can capture multiple buildings at once, so you will get a cropped pictures with various depths and structures which creates a whole different view of a city. And for the evening shots, I recommend using a tripod for those long exposure shots.
